Navicular Bursa
Saginaw Valley Equine Clinic offers navicular bursoscopy/tenoscopy as part of a horse’s comprehensive care.
Our highly-trained staff and state-of-the-art facility allow us to provide arthroscopic evaluation of the digital flexor tendon sheath and navicular bursa. This procedure is used to further diagnose and treat horses with heel pain due to tears of the deep digital flexor tendon at the level of the navicular bone or adhesions between the navicular region and deep digital flexor tendon. Debridement of adhesions and torn tendon tissue or tendinous granulomas, when combined with appropriate post-operative management, often results in dramatic improvement in lameness. This technique provides appropriate cases diagnosed with heel pain an alternative treatment option and can lead to an improved prognosis.
