Equine Veterinary Technician Needed

POSITION TYPE: Full time, non-exempt

POSITION SUMMARY: SVEC is a fast paced company and we are looking for an energetic teammate with great communication and people skills, a strong work ethic and a desire to provide great customer service.


  • Perform anesthesia administration, maintenance and monitoring.
  • Organize and execute plan for incoming/outgoing patients, wards and quarantine areas
  • Assist veterinarians in client communications.
  • Provide technical support to veterinarians and other veterinary technicians in the delivery of primary care, diagnostic services, and disease control.
  • Assist in patient medical evaluation.
  • Assist with administering medications and treatments.
  • Stallion handling.
  • Restrain patients.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples.
  • Collect patient medical history.
  • Collect client contact information.
  • Maintain complete and accurate medical records.
  • Assist with surgical procedures.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures.
  • Record fees for materials and services.
  • Assist with fluids administration and replacement therapy.
  • Assist staff in performing critical and intensive nursing care or life sustaining emergency care as needed.
  • Maintain a clean/sanitary and functionally organized service area.
  • May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or "on-call duty.

Required: Some college with emphasis on veterinary sciences.

Preferred: Completion of an AVMA accredited Veterinary Technician program.

Required: A general understanding of equipment used in an equine veterinary practice. Working knowledge of personal computers.

Preferred: Working knowledge of Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Equipment, Digital Radiology, Blood Gas and Chemistry Analyzers, Ultrasound Equipment, and Diagnostic Monitoring Devices.

Required: Must be able to safely restrain horses.
Must be able to lift 75 lbs and carry for short distances.
Working knowledge of equine behavior (i.e. horse sense).
Must be able to read medicine labels and calculate drug dosages.
Working knowledge of terms used in an equine practice.

Preferred: Technical skills giving IV, IM, Sub-Q, and Per Os medications.
Understanding of Aseptic Technique.
Ability to learn veterinary practice software.
Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and/or data entry applications.
